History, Aims & Purpose

Repton School was founded in 1557, in the village of Repton, south Derbyshire, in the heart of England.

In 2005 the School was approached, through a long standing governor, Robert Owen (OR), about the idea of establishing a sister school in Dubai.  At that time there were no other schools affiliated to British independent schools established in the Middle East, and the education provision for international families in Dubai was much narrower than it is today.  The governors responded positively and in 2007 Repton School Dubai was established, on a 23 acre campus, with local education partners Evolvence Knowledge Investments (EKI).  The school now caters for some 2,400 pupils aged from 3-18.

In 2013, in collaboration with EKI, two new Repton schools were opened in the UAE.  Repton Abu Dhabi for 3-18 year olds and Foremarke School, Dubai for 3-11 year olds.

Up until 2013 the partnership had been managed at an operational level by deploying the staff and resources of Repton School.  However with the expansion in the number of partner schools, and also with a desire to find other education partners in other parts of the world, in the summer of 2013 the governors decided to establish Repton International Schools Ltd (RISL).

RISL exists to establish, develop and maintain the highest quality British international schools. This is in line with the educational purpose of Repton School. The international family of Repton Schools will benefit from mutual interaction on many levels - pupils, staff, leaders and governors are all involved.  This serves to strengthen further the international outlook of Repton.

RISL has no external investors or shareholders. The additional income generated by the RISL business is reinvested to improve facilities and to provide financial support that enables Repton to select pupils simply on merit and without regard to their parents' financial means.
